ROUGH DRAFT:

Just some suggestions to go along with the Spiritual Adoption Program at your parish school or high school:

It is very exciting that the school will be participating in the program.  The use of the posters, the corresponding "Watch Me Grow" brochures (http://www.littleonepublishing.com/insidebrochure.html), and other materials that highlight the preciousness of the unborn child and the "Isn't that cool!" scientific aspects of prenatal life will, I believe, have a great positive impact with the kids.

There is virtually no limit to the creative ways the many resource materials (too many to list) can be used by a teacher "on fire for the Lord" to enhance this aspect of the program.  Just 30 seconds here, or a minute there on a daily basis, pointing out an interesting fact, or posting a neat picture, quote or cartoon, can have great effect short and long-term.

I would encourage the "preciousness" aspect of the biological development of the unborn child to have a priority emphasis, especially initially.

Also encouraging personal testimonies to the greatest extent possible, including quotes and brief stories can have a wonderful impact.  Reading a short story or testimony with the class can be very rewarding, especially about children with developmental issues, and how to understand and respond to these circumstances.

The various abortion-related and sanctity of life aspects provide a way to evangelize in our Faith in deep ways.

The prayer element is crucial. Having the teacher say the daily prayer with the kids would be beautiful.

I would be interested in hearing of any innovative ideas a teacher may implement.

Best wishes and blessings!

P.S. Without in any way pretending the items below are better than other ideas, I list them just because they happen to come to mind. Some are for all ages, others just for older students.

- playing the audio of the heartbeat of an unborn child at 6 1/2 weeks - comparing it to the rate of a child's heart:

www.4life4family.org/heartbeat

- showing the "tear drop" baby photo from the MCCL flier, and reading the accompanying quote by the physician describing his experience with a living baby at this stage: impressive photo of a baby 6 to 8 weeks after conception

www.4life4family.org/6-8-week-baby

- show tiny feet pin. (Give away as a classroom prize?)   https://www.hh76.org/details.aspx?prod_id=5

- use plastic fetal models   https://www.hh76.org/default.aspx?GroupID=135

- have a local pro-life physician or nurse come into the class to talk about fetal development

- use some of the thousands of excellent pro-life memes on the Internet. There are also pro-life cartoons.

- comparisons of abortion with our country's past experience with slavery can be useful

- Mother Teresa quotes on abortion and adoption:
- Demonstrate "right to control my body" argument vs "right to keep your nose" : Explain by having the teacher move his or her arm in whatever directions they wish, and asking the kids if the teacher has a right to do that,  and then having the teacher do the same motion but moving the arm toward a student's nose, and then asking if  "the teacher has the right to continue moving his arm in that direction? Does my right to move my arm any way I want end at your nose, your right to keep your nose in tact?"  (I have personally found this works well with kids.)

- hypocrisy of using terms like fetus, "blob of tissue" to dehumanize, but "baby" when we want the child

- offer kids the chance to draw their own pro-life posters (We do that at our parish and a committee of people award prizes to the kids.)

- have someone volunteer to do a report of life of St. Gianna, or  a report on the life of Jerome Lejeune, or for older students a report on the burial site at Holy Cross Cemetery, use our brochure as a starter - make a mini-pilgrimage to the cemetery. Milwaukee’s Holy Cross Cemetery - burial place for aborted children – a place for prayer and healing www.4life4family.org/cemetery

- display a "Give Life A Chance" button in the classroom. See www.4life4family.org

- explain example of Pope JP II at UN Population Conference in Cairo, standing up courageously (and successfully) against powerful pro-abortion countries.

- Pray together Pope JPII prayer at end of Evangelium Vitae - Join in Pope St. John Paul II’s “Gospel of Life” prayer   www.4life4family.org/pope-jp-ii-prayer

- tell story of how El Salavdor defeated the proabortionists miraculously, and ended up amending the constitution to protect life from conception. Great example of Christian perseverance.

- Sisters of Life "secret" of how to reach people who are shut-down and hurting

- stories of how abortion hurts women AND men

- testimonies of women who chose life and how that turned out to be so good

- discuss ways of public witnessing, Life Chain, 40 Days for Life, - ask kids to come up with their own ideas

- ask kids if they'd like to organize a baby clothes/ diaper collection for Women's Care/Support centers

- have "Pro-Life Kids" book available for kids to look at on their own: https://www.prolifekids.com/product/prolife-kids-book/

- show the DVD "Horton Hears a Who", one of Dr. Seuss’ most beloved stories with the life affirming message that “a person is a person, no matter how small!”
